BioDot Expands Picoliter Printing Capabilities with New Rainmaker Technology
July 18th 2019
BioDot, Inc an automation and liquid handling company with a unique, patent portfolio in low volume dispensing and novel applications in biotechnology, announced today the addition of Rainmaker™, the smallest and fastest picoliter volume printing technology available, to their product line.
Rainmaker’s design allows up to 24 independent tips to dispense volumes ranging from 20 pL to multiple nL’s at high speed, reducing typical microarray production times by more than half. Programmable drop size and precision controls allow users to shrink assays to enhance performance and reduce costs and optimize for rheology or surface characteristics.
The Rainmaker introduction is the first of several dispensing approaches resulting from the collaboration of BioDot with their strategic partners Applied Microarrays Inc (AMI) and Engineering Arts LLC (EA).
“The biosensor and microarray markets have evolved to require precision dispensing from very low picoliter for new applications like NGS spatial transcriptomics, to multiple nanoliter volumes for lab-on-chip biosensors. We elected to work with our strategic partner BioDot to build multiple new systems to enhance our capacity and flexibility with a modernization of a tried and trusted dispensing platform.” AMI CEO Alastair MalcolmA proprietary technology, Rainmaker has been printing commercial arrays in the contract manufacturing environment for over 15 years. Inclusion into the BioDot product line provides new access to researchers and developers.
“BioDot’s approach is to provide precision leading edge technology that enables our customers to be successful.” stated Anthony Lemmo, President and COO of BioDot. “We are thrilled to be able to offer this proven technology to our customers and are committed to expanding our products to meet their needs.”
